Boosting Water Access in Kerio Valley: Maron–Sibow Project Inspection Visit
Today, the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation & Irrigation Eng. Eric Mugaa led a high-level team including the Principal Secretary for Water & Sanitation, Julius Korir , CBS, a board Director and the CEO of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency on an inspection visit to the intake works of the Maron–Sibow Water Supply Project in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
This transformative project is designed to enhance water access and uplift the quality of life for communities in Tot and Mukoro within the Kerio Valley. Currently at 46% completion, the project is set to serve 8,400 people initially, with capacity projected to grow to 14,400 beneficiaries in the ultimate year. It will also support irrigation on 200 acres, boosting local agricultural productivity and food security.
Despite the challenging terrain at the project site, the progress made so far was commended by the visiting team, acknowledging the effort and determination shown on the ground.
During the visit, the Cabinet Secretary urged the contractor to accelerate the pace of works without compromising quality, emphasizing the importance of timely and durable delivery. The Principal Secretary echoed this call, directing the implementing agency to prioritize completion by deploying adequate resources, including engineers for close supervision and swift decision-making on project matters.
